    Do they know about diet, do they know about bloat & elevated feeding, do they know that a Great Dane is in inside dog?

3.  Can I contact your vet for a reference?

    Yes and they should offer all pertinent contact information willingly

4.  Can you provide me with at least two personal reference that I can ask about your previous pets?

    Yes and they should offer all pertinent contact information and how they know them willingly

5.  Would you mind if my Dane and I come visit you for an hour or two prior to my deciding?

    They should welcome this.  This step also gives you the opportunity to see where the dog will be living and give them additional pointers on things that might help them out.
