Before Adopting from HGDR you must prove you are over 21, have taken responsibility for the pets in your household through proper vet care, and are willing to do the same for your new Great Dane. To care for a Great Dane you must know the basics please read the following articles.

Step 2. Submit Application/Fee
Your application must be accompanied by a $10 fee. Applications require many hours of work, reference checks, phone calls and follow ups. Believe it, $10 doesn't even begin to cover it.
Step 3. Home Visit
Once your application is completed on our end you will be contacted for a home visit. This is not the big deal that is sounds like. Its not a white glove test. Its a time to share dog proofing ideas, tell you what we have learned about living with Great Danes and how to avoid the pitfalls we all went through.
Once the home visit is complete, your family can meet danes. Whee Hoo! Remember this is a big deal and all family members need to approve so everyone in the family needs to be there.
Once you have informed HGDR of your choice there is a 24 hour wait before you can pick up your new family member. This is your last chance to say "Hold it!" so if you have any doubts this is the time to ask last minute questions.
Once you are sure, we will meet again with you for contract signing, then you can pick up your Great Dane! Yippee!
Step 5. Follow Up
Follow up is to help you adjust and to check to make sure all is well. This is the time for any issues you are having to be aired. We can help. We have been where you are. Don't worry if you feel a bit overwhelmed at first. Please do not hesitate to call, email or write if you have an issue and its not follow up time. We want to hear from you!
Now the adoption application is pretty cut and dried, all legal this and that. Please answer everything you possibly can, leaving blanks is just going to slow things down for you. See you on the other side. ;)
