Hello There!

So Many Deserve Our Thanks...

Great Dane Rescue cannot happen without the help of many people who give of their time and talents to make life brighter for Danes in Oklahoma.

First of all, to our foster homes! Who do the hard work of spiffing up our found danes and helping them grow healthy, wise and happy. Rescue could never exist without each and everyone of our courageous foster families.  Salute!

Lacey Brushwood, Vice-President, 2001-2008

Lacey Brushwood was the first volunteer at the first meeting to start Heartland Great Dane Rescue, Inc. She was pivotal in helping form HGDR from the ground up. She served as Vice-President for 7 years and helped write many of the policies and procedures we use to this day.  She spent many hours toiling away in the trenches for rescue and her sacrifice is much appreciated by volunteers and adopters alike. A heartfelt THANK YOU! Goes out to Lacey for her cool head during emergencies, the hours behind the wheel and the lifetime she spent on the phone, as well as the oodles of email she fielded in her many years of rescue service. She tag teamed duties with Jan, took  over for the President in Jan's absence and was a consoling shoulder as HGDR endured many growing pains.  A fighter by nature, she was right there to physically take on all comers who abused, neglected and caused daily suffering to the Great Danes she loves. She has earned the right to step down and spend more time with her family.  We wish her well in life beyond daily rescue work and thank her with a huge appreciation for the many Dane Lives she impacted to the positive in all her years at Vice-President.

Frank and Brenda Young, Webmaster, 2001-2007

A very special Thank You to Frank & Brenda Young of Royal Sooner Danes & Borzoi for all of their help. Frank & Brenda have been around since the beginning of HGDR and have been a blessing in many cases. Frank has given us advice on Dane health issues along the way and answered questions while we were learning as well as accepting late night phone calls when our first puppy ate a frog! He still takes those phone calls when something new emerges ‘just in case’ he knows something we haven’t learned yet!  Brenda designed our logo (we’ve made a few changes over time) as well as built and maintained our first website. Without her assistance, HGDR would not have had a web presence for the first 6 years of our existence! Brenda also maintains a yahoo e-mail list ( out-going only) called OklahomaGreatDaneNewsAndEvents. It keeps Okie Dane Fanciers in the know about all OK Dane events. If ever you meet these wonderful Dane folks, please give them a big Thank You for helping our Oklahoma Danes!
